GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — A mother is facing charges after deputies said her son drowned when he was left unattended in a bathtub in Greenville County.

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said 28-year-old Lynda Leigh Nicole Lawson was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with homicide by child abuse.

Deputies said Lawson left her 7-month-old son in a bathtub unattended for an extended period of time, causing him to drown at their home on Old Hunts Bridge Road on June 20.

The child was taken to the hospital where he was on life support until he died Wednesday.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Zander Lawson.

Greenville County investigators also described the conditions inside the home as unsafe and deplorable.

Lawson was taken to the Greenville County Detention Center where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
