In addition to her amazing musical career , Lainey Wilson is also known for her relationship with boyfriend Duck Hodges, a former NFL quarterback. The two of them are adorable together, but Wilson has one 4-year-old fan that may not agree. Turns out, Jenna Bush’s son, Hal Hager, is quite smitten with the country singer. So much so, in fact, that after meeting her, he came up with quite a story…

According to Bush, her son told his 11-year-old sister, Mila, that Wilson had asked him to be her boyfriend. As you can imagine, Mila found this hard to believe. Still, Hal stuck to his story, insisting that the country singer truly did initiate a relationship with him. This wasn’t true, of course, but the 4-year-old certainly had a blast pretending!

“Yeah, she asked me,” Bush recalls her son saying . “And now I’m her boyfriend.”

As much as Hal enjoyed pretending that Wilson was his girlfriend, their “relationship” didn’t last long. Soon after he first broke news of their budding relationship, he had news to share: They’re no longer together. Why? Well, for reasons we may never know, Hal chose to end things over a phone call.

“So, Lainey, you have an admirer named Hal Hager who has created a whole story about how y’all once dated — and then he called and dumped you,” Bush shares with a smile during a segment of TODAY With Hoda and Jenna . “Which we know is false.”
