SOME shoppers could get free vouchers through a frozen food settlement, but they must meet some crucial requirements.

The direct payment opportunity comes after a class action lawsuit was filed against Real Good Foods, a low-carbohydrate and keto-friendly frozen meal brand.

Real Good Foods sells its products at major retailers like Costco, Walmart, Target, and several others.

The brand came under fire in the suit for allegedly sending unsolicited and spam-like text messages to customers after they attempted to opt out of being contacted, per Top Class Actions.

Plaintiffs claim Real Good Foods violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Real Good Foods did not admit to any wrongdoing in the case but agreed to a settlement pot of $1.25 million to resolve the claims and avoid further legal costs.

The deadline for those affected to file a claim and get vouchers or cash from the pot is approaching fast on July 30, 2024.

Qualifying claimants must meet at least two crucial criteria.

    ELIGIBILITY

They must've first received unsolicited text messages from Real Good Foods even after opting out of being contacted.

Secondly, the messages must've been sent on or after April 5, 2024.

Claimants who don't meet either of the requirements will likely not be eligible for vouchers or money from the settlement.

Additionally, no proof of purchase is required for customers to file a claim, but there is a cap on how much they can get from the $1.25 million pot.

    PAYMENT

Those who file an eligible claim can choose either cash or vouchers as their disbursement.

The cash amounts are capped at $8.25 and will vary pro-rata depending on the number of claims filed.

Vouchers will be worth $25 apiece.

To file a claim, customers must first confirm they received a Claim ID number unique to them by mail or email.

    What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all "class members," or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions - offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company's doorstep.

    FILING A CLAIM

If they did not receive the ID, customers must contact the settlement administrator by phone at 1-877-356-0520.

Those with a Claim ID can fill out a claim form on the settlement website, or print out the claim form and mail it to a provided address.

The deadline to file a claim is again, July 30, 2024.

Objection and exclusion deadlines already passed on June 25.

A final hearing for the case was held on July 15.

Americans should also be aware of approaching deadlines for other settlements this summer.

Only days remain for affected residents in Illinois to get $968 payments from a $9.4 million White Castle settlement.

Some can also get $650 from a $1.05 million "fingerprint" settlement with a deadline to file a claim approaching on July 29.
