It may be news to some, but Trader Joe’s once had fresh sushi . The popular neighborhood grocer stocked a pretty decent selection of rolls back in 2019, but later experienced some roadblocks that included a sushi recall the same year. Fast forward to the current day and it seems as though Trader Joe’s is bringing back the fan-favorite offering once again.

In recent years, the big sushi news at Trader Joe’s has been mostly centered around the giant kimbap craze. But word around the seafood department is that Trader Joe’s California Rolls have begun to pop up at locations everywhere. That’s right, those who miss picking up their favorite roll for lunch can now relive their past sushi lunches with Trader Joe's very own California Roll .

    California Roll

    Trader Joe's

This TJ’s take on a Japanese classic will absolutely hit the spot the next time you’re craving some good maki. Made with imitation crab meat, cucumber and avocado, this tasty California Roll retails for $5.99 and comes in a 7.22-ounce package.

TJ’s California Rolls are made in the traditional Japanese style, starting with white rice that has been seasoned with vinegar, then layered with a sheet of dried nori seaweed. Fresh cucumber, avocado and imitation crab made from Alaskan pollock are then rolled up inside before sprinkling the final product with white and black sesame seeds. The roll is then sliced into bite-sized segments and packaged with organic soy sauce and tangy, sweet pickled ginger slices to tie it all together.

Any announcement of a fan-favorite return is always welcomed with open arms amongst TJ’s loyal fan base. The retailer does an excellent job at providing quick and affordable lunch options on top of its already extensive grocery selection, and sushi fits the bill perfectly. And while we love a good California roll as much as the next person, here’s hoping we see more sushi offerings pop up at TJ’s in the very near future.
