MGK and Jelly Roll Channel John Denver; Post Malone and Luke Combs Arrive on Broadway in Port-a-Johns

Today, July 26, is a big day for alternative country fans—both Post Malone and Machine Gun Kelly have dropped new singles featuring two of the most popular country stars right now. Post worked with Luke Combs on his new song “Guy for That,” while MGK collaborated with Jelly Roll for “Lonely Road,” which pays homage to John Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

The MGK/Jelly Roll collaboration comes a month after they performed together at Spotify House during CMA Fest, leading fans to wonder when they would release something. As for Post Malone, he’s been making the rounds through country music biggest stars already, working with Blake Shelton, Morgan Wallen, and Chris Stapleton. Now, he’s released his latest with Luke Combs.

In addition to the singles, both Post and MGK released elaborate music videos. “Lonely Road” weaves a cinematic story straight out of rural America—two blue-collar guys working their days away at their auto shop, final notices on bills coming through, and Machine Gun Kelly finds refuge at home with his girlfriend, Megan Fox. You know, the typical story.

Megan Fox, Bunnie Xo Star Alongside Their Partners in MGK and Jelly Roll’s Music Video

Megan—MGK’s real-life fiancée—portrays his pregnant girlfriend in the video, which has spurred the rumor mill. Later in the video, the perspectives change, and Jelly Roll takes the spotlight. His wife, Bunnie Xo, also makes an appearance as Jelly’s character deals with his struggles.

The song itself is a pop-punk-goes-kinda-country tune overall, using images that are usually found in country music to tell the story. Machine Gun Kelly’s vocals are distinctly not country, but he does try, and the addition of an acoustic guitar is a nice touch. If MGK released this on his own, without Jelly Roll, it may have flopped. However, Jelly’s involvement puts a big name on it that has gone through a similar pipeline that MGK is attempting.

Post Malone and Luke Combs Shut Down Broadway After Being Whisked Away in Porta-Potties

Post Malone and Luke Combs’ music video is less on the serious side. Like, a lot less. The two enter Porta-Potties at a venue, which are then taken away on a semi-truck and driven to the middle of Broadway in Nashville. Tourists and visitors gawk and point as the truck rolls in with the name of Post’s upcoming album emblazoned on the side.

Eventually, Combs emerges from the bathroom and the two simply look around them at where they ended up, shrugging. The song is fun overall, but it’s a little bit overshadowed by the video, where Combs and Post entertain the masses on Broadway with their antics. Both the song and the video are generally a good time, though, as Post Malone has been finding success with his collaborations recently.
