    What to know about Virginia’s tax-free weekend

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Are you looking to spend a little less on school supplies and/or emergency preparation items this year? Here’s all you need to know about Virginia’s tax-free weekend .

    When is the tax-free weekend?

    The three-day tax holiday will span from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.

    The sales tax holiday happens each year in early August.

    What is it?

    Virginia residents can buy certain school supplies, clothing, shoes, hurricane and emergency preparedness items and Energy Star and WaterSense products without paying any Virginia sales tax on those items.

    The holiday includes both in-store purchases and online items. Residents can save between 5.3% and 7% off the total cost.
