Deer tags for South Carolina hunters arriving soon

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Some South Carolina hunters should be getting their deer tags in the mail in the coming weeks, according to the state Department of Natural Resources .

Those who have an annual or three-year hunting license and big game permit that is valid on Aug. 15 should automatically receive a base set of tags. The tags are not available over the counter at retail places such as Walmart or Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Hunter can get their tags at DNR offices in Aynor, Charleston, Clemson, West Columbia at the State Farmer’s Market, Florence, and York. They can be requested online after July 1 at GoOutdoorsSouthCarolina.com , but they will not be mailed until early August.

Youth license holders must still request their free base set of tags each year, according to the DNR.

All harvested deer in the state are required to be tagged where they are killed, and the tag must stay attached until the deer or carcass is quartered or received by a processor, the DNR said.

The tags are valid for the entire deer season with an active license or big game permit. The statewide limit on antlered bucks using personal tags is five for residents and four for nonresidents.
