The 2024 Paris Olympics kick off today with what will surely be a historic Opening Ceremony.

This year’s Opening Ceremony marks a break from tradition, as athletes will be floating down the Seine to the Trocadéro, where the Olympic torch will be lit, instead of walking into a stadium as they have in years past. But the proceedings will still feature the traditional Parade of Nations, which gives each participating country the opportunity to showcase some of their top athletes ahead of the games.

The 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony will certainly look different from the last. The 2021 Tokyo Olympics were noticeably pared down compared to previous years, not to mention the games were delayed a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the world still reunited for a truly historic Olympic year.

WNBA player Sue Bird and baseball infielder Eddy Alvarez represented the United States during the last Summer Olympics. This year, LeBron James and Coco Gauff will represent the U.S.

For viewers hoping to tune in and see the nations who will be participating, here is everything we know about this year’s Parade of Nations.

Which country marches first in the Opening Ceremony Parade of Nations?

Greece typically marches first in the Parade of Nations as the original home to the ancient Olympic Games. They will then be closely followed by the Refugee Olympic Team, composed of athletes who are refugees from several countries.

When will the United States march in the Opening Ceremony Parade of Nations?

Viewers will have to remain patient to catch the United States team during the Parade of Nations — but for good reason.

The United States will be second-to-last in the Parade of Nations because the 2028 Summer Olympics will be taking place in Los Angeles. Australia, the home for the 2032 Olympics, will march just before the United States.

Who will be representing the United States during the Opening Ceremony Parade of Nations?

It’s been confirmed that LeBron James will serve as one of the United States’ flag bearers during the Opening Ceremony. The NBA star was nominated by the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team. Coco Gauff will also be representing Team USA. The tennis pro was confirmed as the female flag-bearer for this year’s games on Wednesday (July 23).
