Sauron is the architect of chaos in a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, premiering Thursday, Aug. 29 on Prime Video.

As we see in the above sneak peek, the Dark Lord’s deceptive tactics turn many — including Eregion’s ruler and master smith Celebrimbor — into unwitting collaborators. And judging by Elrond and Galadriel’s disagreement over the latter’s use of one of the Rings of Power, Sauron will test different relationships across Middle-earth.

The preview, which was released during the show’s panel on Friday at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, also gave us a glimpse at the upcoming battle between elves and orcs, fan-favorite book character Tom Bombadil’s (played by The Diplomat’s Rory Kinnear) live-action debut, and the terrifying and mystical creatures set to appear. They include a young Shelob, the Balrog, an army of Barrow-wights, Damrod the Hill-troll, a Sea Worm and Ents.

After being cast out by Galadriel, the coming episodes find Sauron working to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to “bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will,” per the official synopsis.

As previously reported , Season 2 will see Sam Hazeldine ( Peaky Blinders ) replace Joseph Mawle as the villainous Adar, leader of the Orcs. Additionally, Ciarán Hinds ( Rome , Game of Thrones ) and Tanya Moodie ( The Man Who Fell to Earth ) have been cast in yet-to-be-revealed roles, and Nazanin Boniadi will not return as the human healer Bronwyn — though Bronwyn’s son Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) is set to appear.
