Bossy Betta Fish Rearranges Her Tank Just 5 Minutes After Moving In

Fish don't get enough attention, truly. They get put on the back burner: everyone wants to know what the cutie Golden Retriever is doing, and everyone wants to see the new litter of kittens, but nobody seems to care about what fish have to offer.

That was, at least, until Saturday, July 20th, when a new Betta fish made a splash on TikTok. In the video, his mom exposed her for rearranging her tank right after he moved in - but what is he supposed to do, live in a tank that doesn't fit his aesthetic? No! He's moving things around, and fast:

She needs a name too please help🙏

I hope @taytaybeejay is ready for this guy, because he seems like the bossy type. Those little plants are no match for him!

Though the caption of this video says "she," the poster has been corrected by commenters: this fish is a male Dwarf Gourami. You can tell the difference because of his flat belly (a female Dwarf Gourami's belly is rounder) and the red vertical bars on his body. He doesn't have a name yet; they're still trying to decide, though it seems like "Mango" will probably be the winner!

Since he came home, this fish's new mom has said he's very personable, always swimming near the front of the tank and moving stuff around. He has a pretty cool setup from what we can see, with lots of plants to hide in. So far, he really seems to be enjoying his new home, just adjusting some stuff to his liking.

What do Dwarf Gouramis Need in Their Tanks?

Long gone are the days when you'd walk into a Wal-Mart and pick out a fish, only to bring it home and stick it in a bowl on the counter. We know better now, and we strive to do better, even for something as simple as a fish. They deserve proper care!

If you want to get a Dwarf Gourami , you'll need:

    1. A 10-15 gallon tank (and an additional 10-15 gallon for each additional fish).
    2. 30 days to cycle the tank (can be shortened using quick start, but you'll still need cycling time).
    3. Lots of live plants (Tay's Dwarf Gourami's tank has duckweed all across the top!).
      1. Planted tanks usually require a mixture of soil and gravel.
    4. A proper filter that doesn't produce too strong of a current.
    5. Grow lights over the tank to keep the plants healthy.

You should only keep one male in each tank - you can keep them alone, or you could keep them in opposite sex pairs. Females are typically better living together, though. I do wonder if this fish would ever allow someone else to move things around in his tank...
