Think that just because something is made from IKEA furniture means the look has to look super cheap? Yeah, that is a big no. TikTok creator Hannah Drakeford recently made over a kitchen with select IKEA pieces and she proved to perfection that the right arrangement and colors can make even budget furniture pop.

Sharing a few more details of this Memphis style kitchen I designed for Lou and Ralph of @cressinghamhome I just see IKEA kitchens as blank canvases now. All you need is a little creativity and the right supplies and you really can make them into any kind of kitchen you want! Here’s what was used: Kitchen: Metod/Vallstena by @ikea Cabinet and tile paint: @makeitrustoleum Worktops by @diresco_be from @mykitchenworktop Lemon vinyl floor by @colourflooring Ball cabinet knobs by @etsyuk Anyone out there planning a colourful kitchen makeover? Now, fair warning, if you don't like bright, flashy kitchens, this look might be a bit too much. But even if you're a fan of more subdued tones, Hannah's makeover serves as an inspiration for thinking outside the box. For those who do love color, especially bright colors, you're in for a treat. We get a sweeping shot of everything going on in this kitchen, and while it is a lot, it somehow works harmoniously with each piece contributing to the overall aesthetic.

The base of the kitchen starts off with IKEA's Metod /Vallstena units installed against one wall, painted a gorgeous sapphire blue. This color choice pops brilliantly against the black and white large tile walls and the lemon vinyl floor. (Seriously, it looks bitable...) To add more flair, Hannah used cover panels and deco strips to create the black outlines we see, tying the kitchen into the background seamlessly. It's a bold move that pays off, making each element feel both standalone and part of a cohesive whole.

One standout feature is the bespoke joinery Hannah employed to hide small appliances and add serious storage in the not-so-spacious kitchen. This clever design choice maximizes functionality without sacrificing style. Speaking of style, let's talk about those Terrazzo worktops. They might be reminiscent of a '90s school cafeteria to some, but they're definitely a love-it-or-hate-it element that adds character and texture to the space. Honestly, I kind of dig them.

Can You Add Accent Paint to the Ceiling?

Hannah doesn't directly mention the small but impactful accent pieces painted throughout the space, but they caught my eye. From matching lemon triangle accents on the ceiling to pale sage green random shapes on the walls and teal lining around the windows, these details add layers of interest and personality to the kitchen. It's these little touches that elevate the design from great to unforgettable.

The overall look, however you feel about the color choice, is undeniably cohesive and dynamic. By blending high-impact colors with thoughtful arrangement, she created a kitchen that's as functional as it is fabulous. Make sure you let us know what you think in the comments below!
