Olympics Opening Ceremony fans fume event is 'cheapened' as they rage over 'shared boats'

Viewers of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony had a similar complaint about the boats carrying each country's competitors.

Instead of taking place inside a stadium, the opening ceremony is on the Seine River with the Olympic competitors traveling on boats grouped by country. Viewers took to X, formally known as Twitter , to share their thoughts on how each country doesn't get its own boat.

"Why didn’t they give each country a boat each?? Well harsh, each country deserves [their] own spot in [the] limelight," one user wrote.

Another added: "Should be one each doesn’t matter if it’s big or small so each country can have their time to shine instead of what seems to be an ill thought out and chaotic idea."

However, others thought that the shared boats were a good idea. One wrote: "OK, I was ORIGINALLY thinking this would take FOREVER if each country had their own boat, but if they have a number of boats w/ 4 or 5 nations, this might be the FASTEST #openingceremony ever!"

In the run-up to the Olympics , the state of the Seine was under close scrutiny. Paris , notorious for its sewage-polluted river, vowed to clean it up for use during the games.

To prove the water's safety, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo took a dip in the river before the games commenced. People aren't convinced that the river will be safe enough for Olympians to compete in as a commentatior during the opening ceremony said that the current E.coli levels are too high.

As for swimmers, we're not sure on their reaction to the ordeal. However, the competition this year for them is certainly steep. Keep an eye on Ledecky at the games, as she's set to rival Michael Phelps' aquatic prowess. The swimming sensation has already carved out a legacy in sports history and recently made waves with her comments on doping.

She raised eyebrows when she said, "I hope everyone here is going to be competing clean this week," adding, "But what really matters also is: Were they training clean? Hopefully, that's been the case. Hopefully, there's been even testing around the world."
