The New England Patriots and safety Jabrill Peppers are finalizing a three-year contract extension with a base value of $24 million that can be worth up to $30 million, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was in the final year of his two-year, $9 million contract

Peppers, who turns 29 on Oct. 4, was in the final year of the two-year, $9 million deal he signed last March. Patriots coach Jerod Mayo confirmed the extension before the team’s Friday practice at training camp.

“I am very happy for Peppers and for his family, and also for our team and our organization,” Mayo said prior to the start of practice. “He really embodies everything that you want on the field. He’s very selfless out there, flying around all the time, and it’s good to get that deal done.

“I will be honest with you — when he first got here, it was a bit much for me. I do appreciate it. He brings that passion. He brings that energy each and every day. He’s one of our best communicators on defense along with [Kyle Dugger]. I feel very good about that safety room.”

New England has now re-signed or extended the contracts of 11 players. The 5-foot-11, 217-pound Peppers will continue to work alongside Dugger at safety.

Dugger signed a four-year, $58 million extension earlier in the offseason after initially being assigned the transition tag by the Patriots. His average annual salary is $14.5 million with this new deal.

Peppers was selected 25th overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL draft out of the University of Michigan

Peppers was selected 25th overall by the Cleveland Browns during the 2017 NFL draft out of the University of Michigan. Through 93 career games (79 starts), he has totals of six interceptions, one pick-six, 33 passes defended, five forced fumbles, 5½ sacks, 471 tackles, and 15 quarterback hits.

After two seasons with the Browns, he was traded to the New York Giants in March 2019. He initially joined the Patriots in April 2022. Peppers started 15 games last season with New England and finished with 75 tackles and two interceptions.

One Patriots player who remains disappointed with his current contract situation is linebacker Matthew Judon. Mayo was recently asked about Judon’s “it’s not up to me” comments.

“We’re still kind of working through that stuff,” Mayo said. “Judon is a huge piece of the puzzle. He’s another guy who brings leadership. He brings obviously the playmaking ability.

“But also just that energy of wanting to go out there and dominate the man across from him. So hopefully we get something done. He understands the business side of it as well.”

Judon, who turns 32 on Aug. 15, was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2015 draft.
