“I am so blessed to have been born into an Italian family. My parents were both immigrants from Italy. So, growing up I had all Italian traditions in the household. We spoke Italian. English was actually my second language.”

Carapellotti says being honored as the Italian American of the Year is an experience she will forever cherish.
“It’s been such an honor. I look forward to coming to the festival and enjoying the festivities and promoting our Italian Heritage.”

Carapellotti has kept true to her Italian Heritage and has since taught her family the same traditions.
“I have three children, two grandchildren, and I continue to keep the traditions alive and hoping that my grandchildren will carry them on for years to come.”

Undo’s Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival President, Michele Fabbro, explained how the board chooses the Italian American each year.
“We choose someone from a local business or professional person that has been successful and has given back to the community either as the volunteer or financially, and who also loves their Italian Heritage. This year, Rita Carapellotti is our 2024 Italian American of the Year, and she embodies all those things.”

Carapellotti and her family own several businesses and are best known for their development of the Franciscan Square in Steubenville, Ohio.
She also supports the Friendship Room, has chaired previous Italian festivals and personally hosts a gift drive for families in need at Christmas at her home.
