    'Into the Woods' on stage this weekend

    The Surry Arts Players Community Theatre will be performing "Into The Woods" directed by Tyler Matanick this weekend. There will be a Saturday evening performance at 7 o'clock and a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m.

    "James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece and a rare modern classic," organizers of the production said. "The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching."

    The story follows a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

    The production stars David Nielsen as narrator, Kelsey Mathis as Cinderella, Scott Carpenter as baker, Katelyn Gomez as baker’s wife, Madison Robertson as Little Red Riding Hood, Robert Parks as Jack, Lydia Beck as Milky White, Katie Conely as Jack’s Mother, Madeline Matanick as the witch, Kayla Holleman as Cinderella’s stepmother, Natalie Owens as Florinda, Raegan Amos as Lucinda, Ashley Mills as Cinderella’s mother, Corey Barr as Cinderella’s father, Todd Gerber as mysterious man, Tom Beckom as wolf, David Timm as Cinderella’s prince, Thomas Holladay as Rapunzel’s prince, Hannah Shoaf as Rapunzel, Will Banfield as Steward, Tiffany Karfit as granny, Janelle Nielsen as giant, Citlally Chaire as Snow White, and Jozilynn Surratt as Sleeping Beauty.

    Additional cast, swings/ensemble includes Tess Ramey, Peyton Chelgren, Hannah Sosa, Ella Rose Fuertes, Erik Chelgren, Brody Barker, and Jeremy Willis.
