Multiple fires broke out in Stanislaus County on Thursday, one of which injured two firefighters and displaced a Turlock resident, according to the Modesto Fire Department.

The following are summaries of the fires reported by MFD.

    Turlock fire

At about noon, firefighters responded to reports of a grass fire near the intersection of Lander and Linwood avenues. They saw that the fire was expanding to an outbuilding and multiple cars on the 200 block of Montana Avenue.

Initially, a quint and an engine responded. However, the call was upgraded to a structure fire, prompting nine engines, one quint, two battalion chiefs, two deputy chiefs and the Stanislaus County Fire Investigation Unit.

Two firefighters were injured battling the fire, which was contained to about an acre.

A total of 22 vehicles, an RV and a residential outbuilding were destroyed or damaged. One resident was displaced.

The two firefighters were taken to an emergency room and were later released. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed by MFD.

    Airport neighborhood fire

Firefighters responded to a report of a working structure fire near the intersection of South Santa Cruz Avenue and Mono Drive at about 5:20 p.m.

Five engines, a quint, two battalion chiefs and a medic responded.

They found a large vegetation and debris fire in the backyard of a home. The fire threatened multiple structures.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire, according to MFD. An outbuilding was damaged. Due to the heat, two more companies were requested. Crews remained at the scene for over two hours to mop up the aftermath.

    Oakdale fires

At about 12:30 p.m., fire crews responded to a vegetation fire on Carmel Court in Oakdale. They discovered a fast-moving fire, fueled by dry brush and grass in between several houses.

Crews stopped the fire from reaching any structures. It was contained to about an acre. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire in the river bottom just off Highway 108 near Brady Road in Oakdale at about 7 p.m.

Crews initially had about an acre of heavy brush and large trees aflame. However, several more fires started further west along the river, so backup was called.

The fires were contained, but crews had to stay late into the night to quell the blaze. Crews still were on the scene Friday afternoon, according to Capt. Jim Black with the MFD.

    Edgebrook Drive fire

At about 3:15 p.m., an engine was dispatched to a vegetation fire on Edgebrook Drive in the airport neighborhood of Modesto.

They found about a quarter-acre fire fueled by a mix of brush and bamboo. The fire spread slowly and was contained.

Crews stayed at the scene for about 90 minutes to mop up the aftermath.

In total, Stanislaus County fire agencies received 208 calls for service. The total includes fires and medical emergencies.
