9 days of early voting start this Saturday, July 27

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — It may be a crunch to get to your polling place this Aug. 6 for the primary election, but that’s okay–go ahead and cast that vote any time starting this Saturday.

Early voting begins Saturday, July 27 and goes through the following Sunday, August 4. Registered voters can find their early voting location and hours here .

Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved Proposal 2 in November 2022. A subsequent constitutional amendment now gives voters the right to vote early for at least nine days ahead of statewide and federal elections.

“It’s important for Michigan voters to know they have convenient options for casting their vote in the Primary. Early voting kicks off this weekend – that’s two Saturdays, two Sundays and a whole week in between to walk in and vote,” said Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

When you go in to your early voting location, you get get your ballot, mark the ballot and put it into a tabulator. The tabulators will count the ballots throughout the early voting period, but the public will not know or release the results until the night of the election.

Before voting, officials say you should make sure you’re registered to vote at your current address. You can check your registration status by going here .

If you’ve received your absentee ballot, you can either bring your completed ballot to your early voting site for tabulation, or you can hand-deliver it to your local clerk’s office or secure ballot drop box. The absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Officials do not recommend mailing an absentee ballot this close to Election Day, because of the potential for postal delays.

And, of course, polls will be open statewide on Tuesday, August 6, from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
