The 2024 Summer Olympics kicked off with an opening ceremony full of surprises—including one starring Lady Gaga .

The “Poker Face” hitmaker delivered a French-themed performance along the Seine River during the historic ceremony on Friday, July 26. Dressed in a black strapless bodysuit, black tights and long black gloves, the 38-year-old singer delivered a memorable performance of “Mon Truc en Plumes” by Zizi Jeanmaire . A small troupe of dancers swirled around her, similarly dressed in black as they waved pink-feathered pom poms through the air.

The cabaret-style performance featured lyrics sung entirely in French. Though the Associated Press reported that Lady Gaga’s performance was pre-recorded, fans still loved seeing her in action on the world stage.

The A Star Is Born actress is “SO BACK,” one fan declared on X, formerly Twitter, after watching her star performance.

“Queen Gaga slaying as always! Paris is lucky to have her!” another fan cheered.

Several people agreed that she “slayed” and “stunned” audiences with her “remarkable performance.” Others dubbed her a “legend” and praised her creativity.

“She just proves always that she is a brilliant performer who could legit sing any song you give her and she just SLAYS!” another fan applauded.

After her performance, the “Bad Romance” singer took to social media to express how “completely grateful” she felt for the opportunity to perform at the opening ceremony.

“I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song—a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre,” Lady Gaga wrote before recounting her history with the song.

“Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music—I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth—Paris,” her post said in part.

To pull it off, Lady Gaga explained that her team had rented the feathered pom poms from “a real French cabaret theater,” created special costumes in collaboration with Dior and “rehearsed tirelessly” after studying up on some French choreography.

“I hope you love this performance as much as I do,” she wrote. “And to everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in honor of you—it’s a gift I’ll never forget!”
