TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Fore the Kids golf scramble has been a staple in the community for more than three decades.

It is hosted by the Vigo County Education Foundation to raise money for the Vigo County School Corporation. The foundation’s Executive Director Jane Nichols said the money will make a major impact.

“Everyone is raising funds to provide the extras that help supplement and enrich the school curriculum,” Nichols said. “It supports classroom mini grants, school-wide grants, education field trips, academic team funding. These are so many opportunities for our students that wouldn’t be possible (otherwise).”

She said that money will create new ways to win.

“Our Vigo County students have so much potential and so many opportunities and we want to give them the best opportunities for success and to enrich their lives by making their education more fulfilling, more uplifting, and more enriching,” Nichols said.

Superintendent for the Vigo County School Corporation Dr. Chris Himsel said those extras are essential to good learning experiences.

“To extend that learning and do more hands-on learning, more field trips, and do more after school events that make learning more fun and give them a chance of using what they do in the regular school day,” Himsel said. “They are essential to extending the learning beyond the normal and typical day of school.”

Himsel said he is lucky to be a part of a community that cares so much about their school corporation.

“To have a community come together and rally around that mission of continually trying to get better is gratifying and we are very appreciative of them,” Himsel said.

Officials said that the scramble raised just over $45,000.
