Unai Simon has made it clear that he won't be influencing Nico Williams' decision about his future amid ongoing speculation of a high-profile transfer.

The 22-year-old winger was a standout performer during this summer's European Championships, scoring the opening goal against England in the final and playing a key role in Spain's historic fourth European title.

Williams' exceptional performances at the Championships were a continuation of his brilliant form for Athletic Bilbao, where last season he scored eight goals and provided 19 assists in all competitions, helping Ernesto Valverde's team secure the Copa del Rey and a place in the Europa League . Having been with Bilbao since 2013, Williams has found himself at the center of transfer rumors, with Liverpool , Arsenal and Barcelona among those said to be interested (according to Mundo Deportivo and others).

However, Simon, who was in goal for each of Spain's six matches at the Euros, has stated that he will not pressure Williams to stay at Estadio de San Mames. "Nico has earned the respect of the Athletic dressing room and the Spanish national team," Simon told Football Espana .

"No one is going to say anything to him about the decision he makes; it is impossible. We will be happy with the decision he makes. The only advice I can give him is that after everything he has experienced, the year he has had that has been honors is that he enjoys the holidays with his people and then comes here with his batteries charged."

Williams has pledged his future to Bilbao until June 2027, having signed a new contract with the club in December. During the summer tournament in Germany, he was frequently asked about his future.

Addressing the media, the Spanish international reiterated his happiness in Bilbao. "I just extended my contract at Athletic not long ago, I am very comfortable there, very happy," he expressed. "I have just signed a new deal, it feels very weird that you ask me about my future."

Arne Slot is still yet to make his first major summer signing since replacing Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season. Williams, though, is not thought to be a player under serious consideration at Anfield .

Liverpool.com says: Williams is a good player and his release clause is reasonable but his wages are high. There are better options out there for the Reds, though adding another forward to Slot's roster would be helpful.
