Watch Vince Gill Bring Down the House at the 1993 ACM Awards with “One More Last Chance”

Awards shows are a long-held tradition in country music. There are many awarding bodies. However, the most prestigious genre-specific awards come from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. However, those awards shows don’t just honor the most successful artists in a given year. They also give fans a chance to see some of their favorite artists perform hit songs live. For instance, Vince Gill took the stage at the ACM Awards in 1993 to perform his chart-topping hit “One More Last Chance.”

Gill co-wrote “One More Last Chance” with Gary Nicholson and released it as the fourth single off his 1993 album I Still Believe in You. The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. It was his third No. 1 from the album.

In the video above, Gill shows the world why he is listed among the most talented musicians in country music. His vocal delivery is spot-on. However, many fans would agree that his guitar work steals the show. One of the highlights of his performance comes when he steps away from the microphone and rips into a solo on his trademark white Fender Telecaster.

I Still Believe in You Put Vince Gill at the Top of the Chart

Vince Gill released his fifth studio album, I Still Believe in You in September 1992. It peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. He released the title track as the album’s first single in June 1992. It became Gill’s first No. 1 single.

Months later, he released “Don’t Let Your Love Star Slippin’ Away” which brought him another No.1. The album’s third single broke the streak, landing at No. 3. Then, the next two singles—“One More Last Chance” and “Tryin’ to Get Over You” went to the top.

The success of the album also helped Gill take home some big wins at the 1993 CMA Awards. It brought him Album of the Year and the title track took home Song of the Year. Additionally, Gill won both Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. He also took home Vocal Event of the Year for his part in the George Jones mega collaboration “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair.”

“I Still Believe in You” also took home Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
