Olympic team flies out chefs after village runs out of chicken and eggs

Team Great Britain chiefs have flown in their own chef after complaints about the food in the Olympic village . Meals in the gastronomical capital of the world were “not adequate,” according to team members.

Andy Anson, British Olympic Association chief executive, confirmed a shortage of high-protein dishes such as chicken and eggs and instances of uncooked meat being served.

“There is a delicious irony in the British telling the French how to cook fine food,” said a Team GB insider. “But chicken and eggs are fundamental parts of any athlete’s diet.”

About 40,000 meals are being prepared daily in the athletes’ village, and the restaurant has 3,300 seats. Many of Team GB Olympians have opted to eat at a smaller outlet on Team GB’s island within the village. The insider added: “We are having to get another chef over as the demand is exceeding what we thought it would be.”

Sodexo Live, the company in charge of catering, said it had increased the daily order of the most popular foods, particularly eggs and grilled meats, after complaints. The swimming team, including Olympic champions Tom Dean and Matt Richards, who are both competing tonight, were among the first competitors to arrive in the village.

In a statement to L’Equipe, Sodexo Live confirmed that it “is working to increase our supplies to the restaurants in the athletes’ village.” He added that meat and eggs are “particularly popular and volumes have therefore been increased to satisfy the needs of the athletes."

French organizers placed a trademark focus on carbohydrates in providing food options for this summer's Olympians, adding a boulangerie into the Athlete's Village that produces more than 2,000 baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolat and focaccia, among other bread products, per day according to the New York Times.

Looking to upgrade from the "dining hall" options provided at previous games, the north Parisian living accommodations are centered around six restaurants, two specializing in "French gastronomy," two in international cuisine, one for Asian cuisine, and a final African-Caribbean offering.

The Times revealed from several sources, however, that the culinary options are a significant downgrade from the Tokyo Games, lacking in essential proteins, with Anson adding that athletes have been served raw meat on several occasions. Many British athletes are instead choosing to eat at Team GB's performance lodge in Clichy, about 10 kilometers south of the Olympic Village.

LOL I'm sure the journalists attached to the teams are having fond memories of the great food they were served in Beijing just about now.
