MATAGORDA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two divers were rescued after being lost at sea for over 36 hours off the Texas coast.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sector Corpus Christi watch standers received word that the two divers were last seen on the surface of “unfavorable weather conditions,” the Coast Guard announced.

The divers were not seen again once the conditions cleared.

Emergency rescuers deployed a helicopter, aircraft and boat to search for the divers.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched a total of 1,656 square miles over a period of 36 hours.

Shortly after, the aircraft aircrew spotted a flashing light in the water while searching and found the divers.

The divers were transported to Coast Guard Station Freeport, and were last reported to be in stable condition.
