One of the more memorable lines from Die Hard with a Vengeance was when Bruce Willis’ character and Samuel L. Jackson’s character were in a car making a getaway. Willis’ John McClane kept calling Jackson’s character Jesús because he heard a group of kids greet him earlier by saying, “Hey, Zeus.” Growing increasingly annoyed, Zeus asks McClane, “Why you keep callin’ me Jesús? I look Puerto Rican to you?”

In a related matter, Rasheed Chappell’s new single and video takes us to the Passaic, NJ projects where he grew up and mentions a Jesús he happens to be familiar with. “Haysoos, not in the sky, he on the fifth floor,” he raps about a Latin dude that’s always fighting with his shorty. And one can surmise that this particular Jesús is indeed a Puerto Rican.

Produced by Atlanta Hawks in-house DJ beatsbyjblack and The Arcitype with SoundsLikeDen on the hook, “Haysoos” is a gritty look into the reality marginalized communities across the country are faced with, and Edwin Decena’s direction along with Sheed’s descriptive bars, captures their essence as if we were watching that stark reality through a looking glass.

Rasheed Chappell is set to drop his ninth project Nonstop: JFK > ATL on August 30 and will be fully produced by beatsbyjblack.
