RCSO makes arrest in 2019 cold case homicide

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has made in an arrest in connection to a cold case that began in 2019.

According to authorities, Willie Ferrell, 42, was arrested by investigators for the murder of Dwayne Lane, 52 .

According to investigators, officers responded to a residence on Bayvale Road on December 30th, 2019 at 4:47 A.M. in reference to an unresponsive male.

Upon arrival, deputies state that they located the victim, identified as Lane, lying on the floor in the resident with an apparent gunshot wound and unresponsive, and the deputy coroner responded to the scene pronouncing the time of death at 5:53 A.M.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, investigators were able to locate and interview original witnesses as well as new witnesses in relation to the case, and as a result, Ferrell was arrested for the murder of Lane.

Authorities say that Ferrell is currently incarcerated in the Charles B Webster Detention Center.
