Retirees honored by Prince Edward School district

Prince Edward County Public Schools recently recognized the retirees for the 2023-2024 school year.

“We deeply appreciate the time and support these incredible Eagle retirees have dedicated to our campus community,” district officials said in a statement. “As they embark on the next chapter of their lives, their daily presence on campus will be greatly missed. However, their contributions to PECPS will be long-lasting and cherished.”

Congratulations go out to James Baker from Prince Edward County Elementary School, who dedicated 47 years of service as a health and physical education teacher. In addition, he excelled at various coaching positions within the division, most recently serving as the high track coach.

Brenda Wilson-Walton served at the elementary and middle schools for 29 years as the bookkeeper. You would often see Mrs. Wilson-Walton proudly supporting PECPS athletic events.

Dr. Wendy Lyle-Jones returned to the high school to serve as a foreign language teacher. She previously held this position earlier in her career, bringing her professional journey full circle.

Dr. Shirley Adams taught at the elementary and middle school. At the elementary school she inspired Eagles to foster a love of reading as a reading coach. She also worked as a special education teacher at the middle school.

William Mayhew was the transportation supervisor for Prince Edward County Schools. He spent his time overseeing the maintenance and daily operations of the transportation fleet that safely gets our Eagles to campus each day.

Yolanda Jeffress served as the administrative assistant for special education for 11 years. During this time, she provided a wealth of knowledge to caregivers and teachers navigating special education.
