NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – If you applied for FEMA assistance following the Ruidoso wildfires and flooding in New Mexico , you should be aware that FEMA may call from an unfamiliar number. The agency says it is important to answer those calls as representatives are calling for many reasons like issues with applications, scheduling inspections, or just a follow-up on your application.

They say if a FEMA inspector calls asking for your banking information, a payment request, or saying you didn’t submit an application, it is a scam. They say if any of those happen to you, call their hotline at 800-621-3362.
