FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. ( WMBB ) — More than 25,000 pounds of food will be given away for free on Saturday, July 27.

Destin Harvest is hosting a giveaway at the Northwest Florida Fairgrounds in Fort Walton Beach.

Feeding the Gulf Coast is providing the food for the day to include meats, dairy, and plenty of fresh produce from across the state.

The distribution will be a car drive-through style and is free to anyone, no questions asked.

Destin Harvest and Feeding the Gulf Coast said food insecurity continues to rise in the area, making each food giveaway more impactful.

“We’ve seen an 18% increase in the last data that came out of food insecurity rates going up, which we had hoped would go down after COVID but that’s not been the case. We’ve put out a record number of meals last year with 32 million,” said Michael Ledger, CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast.

“The last one we did at the fairgrounds. We had a car and there were multiple children and they were exuberant about getting eggs,” said Chris Leavenworth, Destin Harvest Executive Director.

The distribution will start at 8:30 am and run until the food is gone. Destin Harvest asks the public to arrive after 8:00 am to line up to give volunteers time to organize.
