USA Gymnastics Makes Big Announcement About Simone Biles and Olympic Teammates

Fans hoping to see Simone Biles and her Team USA teammates in action at the Paris Olympics will likely have to wait a little longer.

Ahead of the opening ceremonies on Friday, USA Gymnastics took to social media to announce that members of both the men's and women's teams would not be participating in the activities. Instead, they would be focusing on the competition that starts later in the weekend.

"U.S. Artistic Gymnasts will not be part of the Opening Ceremony as they prepare for the beginning of their Olympic Competition tomorrow & Sunday. Go Team USA!" the post read .

As USA Gymnastics noted, the decision is a matter of timing as the competitions start just a little more than a day after opening ceremonies on Friday.

Biles is returning to the Summer Games after having to withdraw from several events at the Tokyo Olympics after suffering a case of the "twisties," causing her to lose control and orientation while in the air.

While fans will need to wait until Sunday to see Biles in action at the Olympics, it remains to be seen just how much they will see her. Washington Post reporter Emily Giambalvo noted that Chellsie Memmel, the technical lead for Team USA, said Biles would get to decide how many events she competes in during the team competition.

"Chellsie Memmel said she has talked with Cecile Landi, Simone Biles's coach, about the option for Biles to not compete all four events in the team final if they feel that's what's best for her," Giambalvo wrote on X. "Decision is up to Biles, but the option is available."
