A Las Vegas man is facing charges for threatening to harm government officials, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 32-year-old Spencer Gear has been accused of threatening to assault and murder federal judges and state employees in Montana, Washington, D.C., New Jersey and New York. A grand jury indicted Gear on 22 counts, including threatening federal officials and state employees. Between late November last year and early July, Gear allegedly made threatening phone calls and sent a threatening email to harm eight federal officials and three state employees. One of the charges, count sixteen, involved Gear threatening to kill Alvin Bragg through a phone call on June 3. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the importance of protecting public servants, saying, "The Justice Department has no tolerance for acts and threats of violence targeting public servants." News 12 NY reached out to Manhattan DA Bragg for comment and did not hear back at the time of this report. Gear was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday. He faces up to 10 years for each count of threatening a federal official and up to five years for each count of transmitting a threat to injure. His trial is set for Sept. 24. The FBI, U.S. Marshals, and U.S. Capitol Police are investigating this case. "
