Fans Are ‘So Happy’ for Hoda Kotb as Her ‘Dream’ Celebrity Meeting Becomes a Reality

Hoda Kotb already made one of her dreams come true while covering the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, and the Games have only just begun.

The Today co-host reported on the Opening Ceremony live from her spot along the Seine River on Friday, July 26. At one point during the hours-long event, the skies opened up and it began to rain, prompting Kotb and many others attending the ceremony to throw ponchos over their carefully chosen outfits.

In her role on Today , Kotb often rubs elbows with major celebrities on the show to discuss their latest projects. She also spoke with many high-profile individuals during the opening ceremony—including one in particular who captured her attention.

As seen in a photo that Kotb and Today shared on Instagram , the mother of two had an opportunity to meet Tom Cruise for the first time as she tried to stay dry in the pouring rain. The photo showed Kotb, 59, wearing a poncho she kept tied tight around her face. She flashed a huge smile at the camera as she posed beside the Top Gun star, whose hair was completely wet as he stood poncho-less in the rain.

“Do you know when you dream of meeting Tom Cruise… And then it finally happens,” Kotb wrote to caption the image. Today ’s official Instagram account also shared the image and her caption, adding, “Everyone’s dreams come true at the Olympics! ❤️.”

Many of Kotb’s fans were thrilled to see her “dream” celebrity meeting become a reality.

“👏👏👏👏Yay for you Hoda ♥️♥️♥️,” one fan wrote as another commented, “Lucky Hoda!”

“So happy you got the chance to meet Tom Cruise. I’m so jealous 🩷,” an Instagram user said, a feeling many others echoed.

"Awww lol I love this for you! He looks genuinely happy to meet you, too!” one person wrote.

“Hoda, only you could look l so happy and beautiful meeting Tom Cruise in a rain poncho!” another fan declared.

Kotb also received some playful teasing over the fact that her introduction to Cruise, 62, occurred while she was wearing a large rain poncho—including from one of her co-hosts, Jenna Bush Hager .

“In your dream were you wearing a poncho?” Hager joked.
