Celine Dion's Olympics opening ceremony show proves she is still the G.O.A.T - she shone on stage

Celine Dion shone bright like a diamond at the 2024 Paris Olympics as she delivered a powerful performance that almost brought a tear to your eye.

As dramatic as that may seem, it’s not far-fetched when we are talking about the legendary Celine , the voice behind the emotive record-breaking song My Heart Will Go On. The sole song people associate with the award-winning 1990s film Titanic. Hearing the 56-year-old Canadian crooner let out one song note is oftentimes all it takes to snatch your attention and keep you fully entranced as if being summoned by a siren. Of course, Celine is no Greek mythological creature, but a vocal powerhouse who is still a strong mezzo-soprano despite her gift being affected by Stiff-Person Syndrome - which she was diagnosed with in 2022.

Standing there, looking angelic in her milky white Dior gown that was marked with thousands of pearls, Celine serenaded the audience with Edith Piaf's L'Hymne à l'amour like the iconic diva she is while bringing the Olympics' opening ceremony to a close.

Each arm movement, big or small, flaunted the fringing embroidered on her body, every theatrical head turn that she did conveyed her passion, and all of the notes she perfectly hit showed that Celine still got it. The “it” being her showmanship, her glamorousness, her talent, and most importantly her voice.

The way her vocal instrument harmoniously went with the ample orchestra that accompanied her for her Olympic return - she first performed at the Olympics in 1996 - was heavenly. Further beautifying the already glowing Celine experience was Paris’ lit-up Eiffel Tower which stood as tall and unwavering as she did while singing from it.

Though Celine seemingly put on this brave front for most of her mini-concert, toward the end, when it came time to give a grand finale, her vulnerability seeped through. Right before the climax of L'Hymne à l'amour, Olympic producers zoomed in on the Grammy-winning starlet, showing a Celine who seemingly was beginning to get teary-eyed. Since all of her hair was slicked back into a stylish sleek bun, her expressions were very made visible.

Instead of giving in to the brewing feeling that might've swelled up inside of her due to the fact she finally was able to perform at level that made her who she is, she swallowed it. Celine may or not reveal what she was thinking in the last few moments before she finished her performance; however, what she exemplified at the Olympics was an exceptional comeback. Before the Olympics, Celine hadn’t performed since her last concert, which was in Quebec, Canada, in March 2020.

If nothing else, Celine has proven with her reappearance at the athletic competition that she was still worthy of the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) title.

As a Vocalist myself, I know that it took a great deal of work for Celine to prepare for this performance. The result was nothing less than Spectacular! Bravo and Congratulations, Celine! You Are a GOAT!
