Doctors in the Hudson Valley are on high alert over a possible multi-state listeria outbreak. It's being linked back to some Boar's Head deli meats. The company is now recalling about 200,000 pounds of products.
The outbreak has left two people dead and nearly three dozen others sick . Twelve of those cases are in New York. The contamination is being linked to multiple Boar's Head products like liverwurst and a variety of ham, bologna and salami. So far, no cases have been found in Westchester County. However medical professionals like Dr. Donald Roland says they are on high alert. "With listeria, you can develop symptoms three days to a month later so it can be a really hard thing to pinpoint," says Dr. Donald Roland, with Urgent Care of New York in Thornwood. Dr. Roland says listeria can come across as indigestion or food poisoning. But if you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system, it could lead to significant health complications. "If you are in a high-risk group, some people can die from it and it can lead to miscarriages and other problems from pregnancy which we obviously want to avoid," says Dr. Marina Keller, with Westchester Medical Center. Delis and grocery stores across the Hudson Valley tell us they are throwing out the possibly contaminated products and deep cleaning. Medical professionals urge you to check your fridge if you have recently bought these products. The details on the full recall can be found
    here . "
