    Lincoln County inmate dies by electrocution in work-related accident

    LINCOLN COUNTY, Ark. – Officials with the Arkansas Board of Corrections said that an inmate died by electrocution in a work-related accident at the Arkansas Department of Corrections Varner Unit Friday.

    Corrections officials said that 53-year-old Brian Walker was working inside maintenance, installing lights when they said he apparently touched a live wire.

    Infirmary staff immediately began using life-saving measures at the scene and Walker was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Officials said that Walker had convictions dating back to 1991 for hot checks, DWI 4 th offense, theft by receiving, breaking and entering. Walker was serving a 40-year sentence from Pulaski County for a 2007 rape conviction.

    This is the second time in July that an Arkansas inmate has died by electrocution in a work-related accident after a July 12 incident in a Benton Work Release Unit.
