POCATELLO — A man and a woman were recently arrested on burglary charges for separate incidents in the Gate City.

A 46-year-old local woman was recently arrested after police say she entered the home of another local woman and removed items from the residence.

Kayla Jean Pratt, 46, of Chubbuck, has been charged with one felony count of burglary following the incident, which unfolded on July 19.

Pocatello police around 1:25 p.m. received a report from a local woman that a neighbor informed her that someone was in her house on Northland Street without permission, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

The woman told responding officers that she rushed home to find Pratt, a woman she knew, fleeing her residence with her pockets full of items, police said.

The woman chased Pratt down Northland Street and onto Mckinley Avenue but lost her when she entered the apartment complex on the 1000 block of Mckinley, the report says.

Initially, the woman was unable to determine what items Pratt removed from her home because she was preparing to move but about six hours later the woman called police back to report finding several bags containing items from her home that were hidden between a box and a fence on the north side of her driveway, according to the report.

The woman told officers that the bags contained medication prescribed to the woman as well as electronics that had her name on it, adding that she did not leave those items there and they were not located outside before Pratt arrived at the residence.

A short while later officers located Pratt inside of a vehicle at the north end of North Harrison Avenue and interviewed her.

Pratt told officers that she entered the residence because it was unlocked and she was there to take back things from the woman that she allegedly stole from Pratt, the report says. Pratt also admitted to leaving the items in the driveway after she had been caught exiting the home, police said.

Pratt was then charged, arrested and booked inside the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.

She appeared in front of 6th District Magistrate Judge David Hooste for an arraignment hearing on July 22, during which her bond was set at $5,000.

Pratt is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 1, which will involve local prosecutors attempting to prove there is enough evidence against her to elevate the case from the magistrate to district court level for trial.

If convicted of the felony burglary charge, she faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

Christopher L. Winskowski, 52, of Pocatello, has also been charged with one felony count of burglary and one count of misdemeanor resisting arrest after police say he broke into a business next to the Aid for Friends homeless shelter and stole $7 and several candy bars.

The incident unfolded around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday when Pocatello police responded to a business on East Lewis Street after the owner called to report an apparent theft, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

Upon arrival, officers observed the front glass window to the business was broken and there was damage to the door frame suggesting there was forced entry, police said.

Officers then responded to Aid for Friends and made contact with the shelter manager, who reported that she observed a man, later identified as Winskowski making entry to the gated area near the business that was burglarized around 5:30 a.m. and leaving around 5:36 a.m., the report says. The manager said that Winskowski had previously stayed at the shelter recently, police added.

Officers around 3 p.m. on July 24 located Winskowski sitting on the front steps of an apartment complex on the 300 block of East Center Street and upon seeing the officers Winskowsk attempted to flee, the report says.

Following a brief foot pursuit, Winskowski was taken into police custody.

Winskowski eventually admitted to breaking into the business and burglarizing it after he recently relapsed on methamphetamines, the report says.

He was then charged, arrested and booked inside the Bannock County Jail.

Winskowski appeared in front of 6th District Magistrate Judge Paul Laggis for an arraignment hearing on Thursday, during which he was ordered to be released from jail on his own recognizance.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 7.

If convicted of the felony burglary charge, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
