3 Reasons to Book Your Next Vacation Through Costco

If you're at the point where you feel like you might burst if you don't take a vacation, I can relate. For the first time in almost a year, I took 10 days off at the start of July where I actually unplugged and didn't so much as bring a laptop along. It was mentally refreshing, and the break I needed for a true reset.

Of course, taking a vacation can be an expensive prospect. And planning one can be complicated. That's why I'd encourage you to consider booking your next vacation through Costco. There are several benefits to be gained, like these.

    1. You can save money or enjoy built-in perks you can't get elsewhere

Let's be clear about one thing: Costco doesn't necessarily sell budget vacations. With Costco, you can book a cruise, resort stay, or trip that centers on visiting a theme park. But none of these are inexpensive prospects.

However, you may find that you're able to save money on your next trip by booking through Costco instead of booking on your own, or even through a travel agent. Plus, your Costco booking might come with built-in perks you can't get elsewhere, like a resort or cruise credit you can redeem for perks like spa services and drinks.

    2. You'll get access to customer service if you hit any snags

You don't necessarily have to talk to a Costco Travel representative to book your next trip. If you find a package you like on Costco's website, you can make that booking yourself.

However, should you run into any issues, you'll have the support of Costco's customer service team in your corner. This means that if you're torn between two cruise deals, you can call and speak to someone who can help you navigate your choices. And if your plans need to change or get upended, Costco will be there to help you figure out that situation, too.

Take it from me. A few years ago, I booked a cruise through Costco that got canceled due to the pandemic. Costco took care of everything and chased down my refunds so that I didn't have to deal with the cruise line during that difficult time.

    3. You'll get cash back on your Executive membership

The nice thing about Costco's Executive membership is that it gives you 2% cash back on your Costco purchases. You might think travel would be excluded, but it's not. So a $5,000 trip you book on your credit card could leave you $100 richer.

In fact, if you currently have a basic membership but are pretty convinced you'll book a trip through Costco, it could pay to upgrade your membership before doing so for the cash back. Right now, the upgrade will cost you $60 (so you'll pay $120 for a year-long Executive membership vs. $60 for a Gold Star one). But you might make back your upgrade fee via a trip purchase alone.

Many people look to Costco as a source of low-cost groceries and paper products. But the benefits of being a member extend well beyond savings on everyday items. So if you're itching for a vacation, I recommend seeing what packages Costco has to offer. You may find that you're able to benefit from savings, solid customer service, and some bonus cash back to boot.
