MINOT, N.D. ( KXNET ) — Preparation is everything. Nobody knows that better than our first responders. Having a plan for any kind of emergency can be all the difference in keeping fairgoers safe. The North Dakota State Fair has always planned for an increase in people during fair season

Since March, Ward County Sheriffs along with other local first responders have been developing an emergency action plan. This plan is designed to keep fairgoers safe, while being able to address any kind emergency that could possibly arise from the increase in people, as well as the many concerts that are happening this week.

First responders stress that having a plan for any kind of emergency is the key to keeping fairgoers safe.

“It’s important to have a plan not every plan is 100 percent, but any plan is better than no plan we plan for any kind of event if there’s an active shooter, if there’s a bomb, a ride goes haywire,” said Robert Roed, Ward County Sheriff.

First responders also stress the importance of recognizing suspicious and unwanted behavior. If you see a crime being committed notify officers at the sheriff’s booth or to call 911.

EMTs and Firefighters are all on standby to help in the case of a medical emergency.

“Have an emergency plan yourself know your surroundings know what’s going on stay hydrated, stay healthy, we have people stationed all over the fairgrounds,” said, Robert Roed.

While the Ward County Sheriff didn’t go into specific detail about the emergency action plan, the current plan’s goal is to ensure the safety of all fairgoers and first responders.
