Mishawaka, Ind. — This July 25th, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County invites you to join in the festive spirit of ‘Christmas in July’ with special adoption rates aimed at finding loving homes for their furry residents.

From now until the end of the month, the shelter is offering discounted adoption fees to help manage its peak season influx. Cats are available for just $12, while dogs can be adopted for $25.

Genny Brown, the executive director of the Humane Society, highlights the urgency of the situation. “We’re nearing full capacity,” says Brown. “Our kennels and cages are almost entirely occupied. Right now, we even have a momma cat and her four kittens in my office.”

Currently, the shelter is caring for 268 cats and 70 dogs. As the summer continues, the need for space and support grows. For those unable to adopt, the humane society is seeking foster families and volunteers, particularly those willing to walk dogs.

The public is encouraged to visit the shelter’s website to view animals available for adoption, make donations, or sign up to volunteer.
