Belal Muhammad is finally ready to fight for gold and will look to make the most of his opportunity when he faces Leon Edwards for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 304.

Edwards and Muhammad competed against one another in March 2021. The fight ended in a no-contest following an eye poke to Muhammad. Muhammad has won five straight since, beating Gilbert Burns on two weeks’ notice a year ago. He did everything he could to prove he should get a title shot, from social media breakdowns to callouts on UFC-produced shows.

Getting his long-awaited shot at gold, Muhammad looks to make Edwards regret having him as his next challenger.

"This was like literally the biggest mistake of his life," Muhammad told MMA Fighting via Sports Illustrated . "Dragging this fight on as long as possible because I'm getting better every single day. I'm not a guy that stays outta the gym... Even when I trained for the back-up role, I'll show you text messages where I sent my boys like could we do film study?.... So, now I'm having back-to-back-to-back camps all on you.

“I'm growing my own skills to your weaknesses. The worst thing you could have did is gimme more time... On July 27, I'm gonna be the best form that I've ever been, and that's gonna be your worst nightmare.”

Edwards beat Kamaru Usman via a dramatic walk-off head kick in 2022 to win the UFC welterweight title. “Rocky” has defended the belt twice, notably against Usman and Colby Covington. Against a fresh but familiar contender, he looks to remain champion on home turf in Manchester.
