The men's skateboarding event at the Paris Olympics has been delayed due to inclement weather conditions.

Originally set for the opening day, the competition has now been moved to Monday, with the same scheduled times as initially planned, after persistent bad weather disrupted the start of the games, including the opening ceremony on Friday.

World Skate released a statement saying: "Due to adverse overnight weather conditions and following a meeting this morning with all relevant organisers, the decision has been taken to postpone Men's Street Skateboarding at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games until Monday 29th of July."

With the event a relative unknown to many, Lucy Adams, Skateboard Great Britain's progression project lead gave an insight into what fans can expect. She told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Street is what you would typically see in a city centre so featuring banks, hand rails. Park is seen in a bowl so you'd get those big transitions where they'd get big air off."

In total Team USA have 12 athletes competing across the two formats of the skateboarding event. The men's park team is made up of Gavin Bottger, Tate Carew and Tom Schaar, whilst the women's park roster consists of Minna Stess, Bryce Wettstein and Ruby Lilley.

There are also three representatives as part of the men's street team, with Njyjah Huston, Jagger Eaton and Chris Joslin all representing the USA in Paris. They are joined by Paige Heyn, Mariah Durhan and Poe Pinson who make up Team USA's women's street roster.

The opening ceremony of the games on Friday night was a spectacular riverside event, breaking away from the traditional stadium setting. It unfolded along the River Seine, with superstars like Lady GaGa and Celine Dion performing despite the pouring rain. An impressive crowd of 300,000 braved the weather to witness the festivities in Paris.

The start of the games may have been dampened by poor weather, but Meteo France, the national meteorological service, predicts a summer that's likely to sizzle above average temperatures. France has a history of scorching summers, with Paris hitting a record-breaking 42.6 degrees in late July 2019.

Reflecting on the previous Olympics in Tokyo 2021, athletes and volunteers endured what local weather experts described as "torturous" conditions due to extreme heat. It was recorded as the hottest Olympics ever, with mercury levels soaring to 34 degrees coupled with a humidity of 70%, making it feel even hotter.

Tennis star Daniel Medvedev recounted experiences of "dying on court" amid the sweltering heat, while other athletes suffered from vomiting and fainting at the finish line, overwhelmed by the intense temperatures.
