Dapper Dan Featured On TV One’s ‘Uncensored’: Exclusive Clips

D apper Dan has earned icon status in culture with a name arguably as familiar and recognizable as any rapper or sports figure. The beloved designer born Daniel R. Day will be getting his proverbial propers on TV One series, Uncensored , which chronicles his storied career, in his own words.

The Harlem native’s talents (“I am 100% pure Harlem, just check,” he says emphatically) has seen him outfit urban hustlers in the freshest streetwear couture to actually collaborating with the same fashion houses, see Gucci, that would emulate his style .

Dan first came to fame dressing star Golden Era rappers like Salt-N-Pepa, Eric B. & Rakim and the late, great Biz Markie. “Eric B is a swag man,” said Dan, interviewed by Yonkers rapperl, Jadakiss, when discussing some of the GOAT MCs he dressed. “I swag I’m out in the Gucci. Rakim is a Five Percenter, I hit him up with the Five Percenter look… Now Jungle Brothers is coming through. Jungle Brothers is into the Afrocentrism. So I say okay, we going to go with this red, green and black, and we going to shake something that gives you this identity and so people can see where you coming from.”

The OG also hit the nail on the head regarding how today’s rappers are built differently, so he has to adjust how he styles them. “A lot of rappers today are really not embedded in the culture, or had to escape the culture,” said Dan. “So they going by word of the ear, not that they’re there, ya dig what I’m saying.”
