Liverpool fans have all been saying the same thing about Reds youngster Trey Nyoni following his impressive display against Real Betis on Friday , with the 17-year-old even being compared to a Euro 2024 star.

Dominik Szoboszlai's 34th minute strike helped Arne Slot secure victory in what was his first game in charge in front of fans, having already seen his side lose 1-0 to Championship outfit Preston North End in a behind-closed-doors training ground friendly last week.

Nonetheless, the Reds impressed at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, with Slot handing minutes to 23 players in the Stateside clash. Many of those included players from the Academy and Under-21s, with the Dutchman keen to give youth its chance ahead of the new campaign.

Teenagers Ben Doak , Lewis Koumas , Stefan Bajcetic and Kaide Gordon all came off the bench to play their part in the 1-0 victory, as did 17-year-old midfielder Nyoni, who left fans stunned with his impressive performance. The youngster actually came on earlier than expected, having replaced the injured Curtis Jones after 31 minutes.

Nyoni first hit the headlines when he was included in a Premier League match day squad for the first time in November 2023 , before making his first team debut as a substitute in the FA Cup Fifth Round victory over Southampton in February to become Liverpool's youngest ever player to feature in the competition, aged 16 years 243 days.

Now, however, it appears the teenager has started the next chapter of his Anfield story, with fans left full of praise for his performance on Friday. Some have already called him "a star", while others have even drawn comparisons to Barcelona youngster and Spain Euro 2024 winner Lamine Yamal.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one person wrote: "If (Jamal) Musiala and Yamal can play for their respective first teams at this age, why can’t Trey Nyoni this season? The guy has football intelligence beyond his years. If you are good enough, you are old enough."

A second person added: "Sorry Yamal, we have the best 17 year old in the world. No pressure."

A third user said: "17 year old Trey Nyoni got MOTM. Remember the name. We have our very own Yamal."

It's safe to say Nyoni did not look out of place in Liverpool's side, looking confident in an eye-catching display and getting involved in the move that led to Szoboszlai’s goal. The Hungarian even sung Nyoni’s praises after the game , with the midfielder left stunned by his performance while watching on from the bench in the second half.
