Saints QB Jake Haener diagnosed with rare form of skin cancer

    2024-07-27

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener revealed on Friday that he has a form of skin cancer. The back up quarterback said it was discovered just prior to the start of the Saints training camp. Haener then had a visit to the dermatologist and where a biopsy was taken.

Haener said, "It's something that just popped up."

Adding, "For my age, it’s kind of rare that that it pops up like that. So, I’m trying to get that evaluated with our training staff. I have a consultation with doctors August 1st on our off day... With these skin cancer things, if you wait, things spread, so I've just got to get it taken care of."

The 25-year-old did not elaborate on what type of skin cancer it was but he did disclose that it is not considered to be life-threatening and will be meeting with doctors next week to determine what the next steps are.

Haener was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 4th round (127th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.
