Bryson DeChambeau has opened up about the "sad feeling" of missing the 2020 Olympics, as he faces the prospect of being a spectator once more.

The golf star was set to don the Team USA colors in Tokyo but had to withdraw after testing positive for Covid-19 just a week before the event. Now, as a LIV Golf player, his chances of competing in Paris this summer were slim from the start.

Despite clinching his second US Open title last month, DeChambeau finds himself at No. 9 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), trailing behind four fellow Americans who secured their spots on the teamScottie Scheffler at No.1, Xander Schauffele at No. 2, Wyndham Clark at No.5, and Collin Morikawa at No. 6, reports the Mirror .

His move to LIV Golf, which hosts tournaments not recognized by the OWGR, certainly didn't help his case for Team USA selection. Yet, not all LIV Golfers have faced the same fate; stars like Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann, and Mito Pereira are hitting the greens at the Games.

In a heartfelt moment with the press during the LIV Golf UK event, DeChambeau expressed his disappointment over the missed opportunity to represent his country in Tokyo, while also casting an eye towards the 2024 Paris Games.

"I had a chance in 2021 [Tokyo Olympics] and didn't get to go because of COVID unfortunately. I got it the week before which was unfortunate but I still got to go to all the stuff which was really cool but not going there gives me a sad feeling not being there for 2021," he shared.

"From this year it's a little different, obviously the whole situation between LIV and PGA makes things different so I could foresee something like that happening, there being a tournament, but as it stands right now, I'm excited to watch".

While on the Pat McAfee show, the golfer confessed his disappointment about missing the chance to become an Olympian, while acknowledging the "consequences" of leaving the PGA Tour. "I'm playing great golf, I'm excited," he said.

"[So] yeah... am I frustrated and disappointed? Sure, you can absolutely say that. But I made the choices that I made and there's consequences to that and I respect it. Hopefully sooner rather than later we figure that out so in this great game of golf we can get past all that and move forward into showing how awesome this sport really is around the globe."
