After weeks of rumors, Céline Dion stood on top of the Eiffel Tower and sang the final song of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony. And she’s overwhelmed with “joy” to have been part of the iconic event.

The legendary singer took to Instagram following her gorgeous rendition of Edith Piaf’s classic L’Hymne à l’amour and shared her thoughts on both her performance and the two weeks of games to come.

“I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities!” Céline began. “Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance.”

“All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud,” she continued. “We know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you!

Céline Dion’s Olympics Performance Came After Years Of Hard Work And Treatment

The performance was Céline Dion’s first since a 2019 apperance in London, England. In December 2022, the Grammy winner announced a break from singing because of her Stiff-Person diagnosis. The “rare” and “progressive” autoimmune disease “affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord,” according to NINDS .

The disease is also marked by severe muscle spasms, which made it difficult for Céline to control her voice. While she just learned her diagnosis a few years ago, she first began experiencing the symptoms in 2008.

During her professional break, Céline Dion has been working hard to regain her voice and return to the stage with the help of a “wonderful” voice coach and a life-changing treatment plan.

“If I would have just stayed secretly behind, my home would have become a prison,” she told People in June. “And I would have become a prisoner of my own life. Today, I live one day at a time. The fact that I found the strength to communicate my condition with the world makes me very proud. Maybe my purpose in this life is to help others, and that is the greatest gift.”
