Formula 1 picks, odds, time, grid: 2024 Belgian Grand Prix predictions, F1 best bets from proven model

Before going on a month-long summer break, Formula 1 will head to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday. Start time is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET and the race will run 44 laps around the imposing 20-turn, 4.352-mile circuit. Spa is widely considered one of the world's best and most challenging race courses, highlighted by a hairpin first turn more commonly referred to as "La Source." McLaren is coming off a 1-2 finish in Hungary last week and their momentum is palpable, with Lando Norris listed as the +125 favorite (bet $100 to win $125) in the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix odds.
Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary Formula 1 prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results. It's had a strong history of success in motorsports, correctly predicting 19 NASCAR winners since the 2021 season and its projected leaderboards have forecasted winners across multiple racing formats.
The model has been scorching hot when it comes to picking Formula 1 race events dating back to 2021. It nailed both of Charles Leclerc's wins in 2022, and at the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, the model was strongly backing Verstappen as its top pick. The result: Verstappen dominated the field and ran away with a surprise victory.
The model followed that up by calling Verstappen's win at the Rolex Emilia Romagna GP in April and then nailed his wins again in Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, the United States, Mexico and Abu Dhabi. It also nailed all 19 of Verstappen's wins during the 2023 season and then called all seven of the three-time defending champion's wins so far in the 2024 season. Anyone who followed the model's lead on those plays has seen huge returns.
One surprise: The model is high on Yuki Tsunoda of RB Formula One Team, predicting a top-10 finish that would pay out at +300. The 24-year-old is in his fourth season as a Formula 1 driver and is benefiting from his team's strengthening relationship with two-time defending constructors' champion Red Bull Racing.
Tsunoda is a career-best 12th in the standings and his seven points finishes over the first 13 races match a career-high. He's finished top 10 in his last two starts and is now only two points behind Lance Stroll of Aston Martin to move into the top half of the F1 standings.
