Ann Coulter switched up a plan to defend Peter Navarro on air, declaring after listening to an interview that she had “no idea how profoundly stupid he is.”

“I was fully prepared to defend him and make a much better argument than he just made,” Coulter told Dan Abrams , the founder of Mediaite, on NewsNation after listening to an exchange with Navarro. “But now I wish they had kept him in prison for four years instead of four months.”

Coulter was in shock over Navarro’s appearance, saying, “I had no idea how profoundly stupid he is.”

Abrams joked he’d “forced” Coulter to sit through the interview to get her reaction.

During Navarro’s appearance, he and Abrams clashed on Navarro’s conviction and the former Donald Trump official’s claim that it was politically motivated. Navarro just completed a four month prison sentence for refusing to comply with subpoenas from the congressional subcommittee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Shortly after being released from prison, Navarro took to the stage at the Republican National Convention .

Abrams pushed back on Navarro’s “weaponization” claims by pointing out that he “completely flaunted” the subpoena and also that a number of Democrats have also been targeted by the Department of Justice, including Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ).

“So, all the Democrats committed real crimes, but the Republicans all — it was weaponization?” Abrams asked.

Navarro echoed points he’s made previously, claiming he was “protecting and defending the Constitution” by refusing to comply with the subpoena.

“You’re comparing me to frigging Menendez,” he said. “I mean, that guy’s like a sociopath and a criminal.”

Coulter held nothing back in her reaction, arguing that propping up people like Navarro only hurts the GOP and makes them look weak on crime and declaring she wished Navarro was hit with “four years instead of four months” in prison.”

“Republicans who think it’s a good idea to brag about how we’re really soft on crime, Trump let prisoners out of prison, we passed the First Step Act — what has been the most winning issue for Republicans for the past 50 years? Being tough on crime, Dan Abrams,” Coulter said. “And right now there is nothing Americans agree on 70%. You know what they agree on 70% right now? We are not tough enough on crime.”

Coulter argued law and crime is a perfect platform to run against Vice President Kamala Harris, but people like Navarro are standing in the way.

“Oh, I wish they had kept him in prison for four years,” Coulter fumed.
