Zachary Quinto is not afraid to take risks as Dr. Oliver Wolf in NBC’s Brilliant Minds .

In a new trailer for the medical drama, which premieres Monday, Sept 23 at 10/9c, Dr. Wolf takes an unconventional approach to treating his patients: popping pills to see the world through the eyes of the sick. Instead of simply treating ailments, the doctor wants to go inside his patients’ experiences.

“I want to change how the world sees my patients,” Dr. Wolf says in the teaser (watch above).

Inspired by the life and work of world-famous author and physician Oliver Sacks, the series follows Dr. Wolf, a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, and his team of interns at the fictional Bronx General Hospital “as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.”

The series’ cast also includes Tamberla Perry ( The Good Fight ), Ashleigh LaThrop ( The Kominsky Method ), Alex MacNicoll ( 13 Reasons Why ), Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II ( All American ), Teddy Sears ( The Flash ) and Donna Murphy ( The Gilded Age ).

As previously reported , Mandy Patinkin ( Criminal Minds ) is set to guest-star in a pair of episodes as an esteemed doctor who shakes up the dynamic at Bronx General Hospital. Steve Howey ( Shameless ) and Tony Award winner André De Shields will also show up in guest stints as patients of Dr. Wolf.
