Among the athletes, foreign leaders and fans at the 2024 Paris Olympics are more than two dozen Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel.
The department stated that they sent a dedicated team of 28 personnel to be a resource for American citizens attending the games, as well as the athletes themselves as part of partnership with the French National Police.
Comprising of various special units, including patrol units, K9 units and other specialized divisions, the group is also set to gain “invaluable experience” on securing a large event like the Summer Olympics – which are set to be held in Los Angeles in 2028 .
“Throughout their tenure in Paris, each LASD specialist will focus on best practices for maintaining safety and security,” the sheriff’s department said in a release. “They will bring this vital knowledge back to Los Angeles, ensuring our team is exceptionally trained and ready to deliver world-class public safety services in 2028.”

The international collaboration will give personnel a unique chance to observe and engage in discussions with police officers from around the world on how to make sure events like the Olympics go smoothly.
Learning opportunities and experiences aside, LASD says that they are ready to ensure that everyone – especially American visitors and athletes – have an enjoyable Olympics experience.
“LASD is committed to supporting the French government and authorities during the early stages of the Paris Olympics, serving as a valuable resource for American tourists and athletes participating in the Games,” the sheriff’s department said.
