JD Vance’s Ex-Classmate Reveals SHOCKING Texts From Trump VP Pick On Race, Hating Cops, & Trump

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance may be fairly new to politics, but he’s long been in the public eye and that celebrity is bringing new attention to past comments.

The New York Times published a report on Friday that included texts provided by a former Vance classmate in which the Republican senator rails against police, Donald Trump , and more.

The exchanges come from 2014-2017 when it was no secret that Vance was a vocal opponent of Trump, now his running mate. Sofia Nelson , a transgender public defender in Detroit, was close friends with Vance and shared the messages. The pair had a falling out in 2021 over Vance’s public opinion about gender affirming care to minors.

The two appeared to be close before as one email exchange found Vance apologizing for referring to Nelson as a “lesbian” in his book, Hillbilly Elegy . Nelson responded by calling Vance “sweet” and a “buddy” and asking for a signed copy of the book.

In one exchange, Vance declared that he “hates” the police. The conversation followed 18-year-old Michael Brown being killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri.

“I hate the police. Given the number of negative experiences I’ve had in the past few years, I can’t imagine what a black guy goes through,” Vance wrote.

In a 2015 email, Vance referred to Trump as a “demagogue.”

“There have always been demagogues willing to exploit the people who believe crazy shit,” he wrote.

In other exchanges, Vance criticized Trump, saying at one point he could never imagine himself voting for him, calling him a “morally reprehensible human being.”

A spokesperson for Vance dismissed the text messages in a statement.

“Senator Vance values his friendships with individuals across the political spectrum. He has been open about the fact that some of his views from a decade ago began to change after becoming a dad and starting a family, and he has thoroughly explained why he changed his mind on President Trump. Despite their disagreements, Senator Vance cares for Sofia and wishes Sofia the very best,” the statement read.

Trump’s pick of Vance on his ticket has caused some consternation on the right, earning backlash from Ben Shapiro , Tomi Lahren , and other conservative pundits.

While discussing past resurfaced comments, Shapiro theorized Trump would like a do-over when it comes to Vance.

“So, J.D. Vance is the vice presidential nominee for President Trump now. If you had a time machine, if you go back two weeks, would you have picked J.D. Vance again? I doubt it,” he said .
